It's totally fair. Going beyond that quickly yields diminishing returns, and it becomes very time-consuming to author. What you're doing there and in >>4973984 is plenty good with the roads. It's kind of like how loose brush work is evocative, where it's not meant to be inspected up close but works pretty well. Not that yours doesn't hold up if I do.

I don't think it's never worth the extra effort personally. It takes so long to find a model and background picture, anyway, and it's plenty fun as well to edit. But I'll still very deliberately minimize the amount of work I need to do; footprints coming from the side of the frame that requires the least amount of work, hide things behind smoke, copying buildings from elsewhere in the frame and hiding effects behind them or even whole parts of the picture, cropping the picture itself…
