FAQ
Q: I'm a total beginner. Where should I start?
A: Do the exercises in either "Keys to Drawing" by Bert Dodson or "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards. Additionally, you can try the first few lessons of https://drawabox.com/ for building up muscle memory.>>71765446

it should be soft shadow and it looks hard because of demonstration purposesnsfw artists:
Why do you draw lewds specifically? What draws you to it other than drawing something safe for work?>>71765975

Main reason: Its just fun and rewarding. I tried doing it on a whim once and found out it was very enjoyable, so I kept doing it. As I did it more, I met more people interested in it and formed connections with them. After years of it I have a pretty developed social web around it, so there's always people to talk to that encourage me. Also it gives me a lot of specific goals to work towards in improving my art.

Other reason: Because it makes me money and I'm not good enough for a traditional art job.>>71765510

I've jerked it to all sorts of art, on levels deeper than "lewd." Now I want to make art like it because I love it. How else do you express your love for men and their bodies?>>71765975
It streamlined my goals for a while. Many artists can get good through lewds since you need a good sense of form, anatomy, fundamentals like that. Eventually though I stopped doing them. It might seem counterintuitive, but I found myself relying on motivation to draw. That kind of motivation is actually pretty unreliable. It was better for me to go for a more academic approach. I can be more objective.
