Dinah love!I think the setting is way more unique and interesting in 1, and the MC's plotline a little better, but in every other way 2 is the better game from what I recall.

I should try Maglam Lord at some point, I wonder how it compares.

I disagree with 2 being better in every way after playing both of them back to back last year.
The game has better customization for weapons on paper but in practice it goes out of its way to make experimentation a pain in the ass. For example, you barely get sword stones because almost all of them break via plot. Many custom fusions require boss drops which involves grinding the fuck out of the fishing minigame and a third of the materials are annoying to get due to them being drop only. The worst that you can say about 1 is that farming mystic stones for the elemental weapons is ass.
I agree that 2 has a better overall group of GBs which isnt hard when 1 only has two real choices (Rasho/Sugar) but the side cast was worse in 2. Some of them just felt like they didnt really know what to do beyond the one gag.
Narratively, 2 starts off really strong but once you get to the part where you need to visit the element sword dungeons, it kind of just plods along instead of really pushing the narrative. Guren Goura also felt kind of lame compared to Parista as a climax.

Dont get me wrong, I like both of them, but 2 has some stuff about it that really annoyed me on the replay.>>3738176

I think being able to break the game is different from enemies not fighting back because in either game you can simply spam magic to trivialize everything anyway. Swordcraft Story 1 enemies will all effortlessly be stun locked by any un-enchanted low level weapon. The same won't happen in 2 is all I meant, what with enemies dodging out of consecutive hits or simply doing a quick attack to get you to stop. They also hit pretty hard from what I remember.
The item procurement was annoying if you wanted to test everything, I agree. Only good thing about that was the ingredients you do get without grinding can take you comfortably through the game. Only postgame areas needed some extra fishing for items. At least the elemental system was way more interesting because of how rare they were.

Who were your favorite characters? In 1 I liked Sanary and Razzy.

I'm kind of surprised there aren't more characters out there with the possession shtick that Dinah has. Launch from Dragonball is sorta similar but not really the same since it's an actual multiple personality thing. I feel like this should be an archetype that you see all over the place, it has the vibe of being a classic anime gag but I can't really think of examples. The "demon possessed by an angel" thing makes it even more unique, and funnier too.>>3738486
Agility is still the god stat in terms of investment so you just stack loads of it and take advantage of basic combo into launcher at the end.
Yeah enemies have more movement in 2 but I feel like it only affects drills in particular since they have more downtime compared to the other weapons. Granted you can cheese the early broken weapons by guarding and letting the enemies suicide on you lol. Then you make a dur breaker weapon and its okay.
Magic is broken as fuck for randoms and early bosses yeah.

For the characters, Sanary and Varil were great in 1. In 2 Dinah/Exeld are the stand outs. Tatiana is alright too. Best day were the water dungeon and the Gunvald ones.There are no revive spells or items of any kind in Summon Night.
