Keaton’s quiet night is interrupted by a rustle in the bushes…

KARO NOTES:

So you may sorta know Keaton from the Nov 2024 animatic I did. This time, he’s been redesigned into a more Felix the Cat shape (some people thought it was a Sonic thing) I think it’s the best he’s ever looked throughout his decade of existence, it’s fun to express with and see in action.

This short was largely done in December, so I had to add back in a few PINGtreon supporters from the time. It was also originally supposed to be a part of a different larger project I had in store related to the Donkey Kong Country TV Show, but I plucked it from there because I liked it enough to keep it independent.

That said, there are a lot of small nods to the DKC show in this. The statue of Vin the Mothman was made to resemble the DK statue Cranky has in his hut. The record player was based on the one used in “Double Date Trouble”, as well as it being used to ward off the Kritters. The cloth that Keaton drapes over the windows is based on K.Rool’s cape, he has pots of cacti similar to the ones seen in Funky’s place, he has Cranky Kong’s globe with Kongo Bongo Island mapped in there, the lantern, alot of Keaton’s RV was based on Cranky’s Cabin.

For the music to this one, I went out and got a panflute and a pipehorn to bring in a more naturalistic feeling to this one. I wanna tie Keaton’s movements to the panflute and have that accentuate the way he acts. I had a finger piano laying around for a few years now from a reptile zoo gift shop, so I used that here. I knew I’d use it in relation to a Keaton short at some point, and now I have. I wanna go more complex with the music I do in these shorts.
