For a long time, I wanted to work on something outside of college and focus on creating my own character and story. But when your break from animating is animating, it eventually becomes exhausting.

I don't remember exactly when I started this project, but one of the earliest sketches of the gas station dates back to March of last year. The part that took me the longest was modeling the environment in 3D. At that point, I still didn't have the concept for the short film, but I already had the basic premise of Hector's story.

The hardest part was coming up with an idea that wasn't impossible to animate. Every time I came up with something, I had to simplify it until it eventually became what it is today.

I always knew Hector would try to protect his gas station, facing conflicts he wouldn't know how to deal with and outcomes that wouldn't always turn out the way he hoped. But I also wanted him to be able to accept that by the end of the day and keep moving forward, a lesson I had to learn myself several times while making this short film.
