Snails get infected by eating bird droppings containing the parasite’s eggs. The parasite invades the eyestalks, making them swell and pulse with colorful patterns that look like caterpillars, a tempting meal for birds. It also changes the snail’s behavior, drawing it to bright, exposed spots where birds can easily see it. Once the bird eats the snail, the parasite reproduces and releases new eggs in its droppings, restarting the cycle.🐌🧟
