Crafted meticulously over the span of two years from 2021 to 2023, I was in a hard spot in my life (just like much of the world) and was losing my creative fire after coming off an 8 year project. I needed something to take me out of a rut and I decided to immerse myself into a passion project; something that gave me the same feeling I had as a kid just making short animations for fun. I wanted to go back to the animation that started it all for me and that was the original Genryu's Blade.

For those unfamiliar, this animation was recreation of the original Genryu's Blade flash animation from 2001 (link below) which was first posted on Newgrounds and got lost to the depths of the internet. Luckily someone had reuploaded to Youtube a couple of years ago. It was a HUGE inspiration to my 12 year old self at the time and really put me on the creative course that I am on now. It proved to me that one person can create something amazing if they dedicate their time and effort to something they believe in. Now as an adult I wanted to prove to myself that I could create something of that caliber with the tools I had available.

Everything you see is entirely created in Dreams (with a sprinkle of post processing), and brought to life with nothing more than a PlayStation and a PS4 controller. It's a love letter to my 12 year old self that I'm finally ready to share and hopefully every frame that I created for this animation reflects the dedication I poured into this project.

Dreams allowed me to create playfully and gave many more the opportunity to do so. So this project was not only a love letter to myself but also to Genryu's Blade and Media Molecules Dreams.
