cartoonsmart tutorial on Animated Landscapes

Abstract:After Christmas Eve and the family went home I decided to look up some tutorials to help job my memory on Flash I came across cartoonsmart's tutorial on Animated Landscapes # - Adobe Flash Animation Tutorial. The tutorial goes over the usual timeline and motion tweening with the usage of converting symbols to MovieClips. However what caught my attention was the use of masks and effects for waterfalls, fire, and particles to make the still JPEG more animated. I've completely forgotten how to use masks and a lot of advanced stuff mentioned in this tutorial so this was an excellent refresher. Not only that but the Flash Player this tutorial was made for was v9 so its definitely Ruffle Compatible. If your impressed with the given example I would recommend everyone to checkout cartoonsmart's channel and his newer stuff. When I went to publish it the Flash Player 11 really struggled to reach the designated 30FPS, for the most part it only reached 14 FPS. The animation looked choppy and rough. Even when I set the FPS to 120 the entire scene just really struggled to render. Flash Player 32 (release ver 32, not 32 bit) had the exact same issues. On the other hand, Ruffle rendered and played the entire scene flawlessly. No matter the framerate I set the stage to Ruffle managed to outperform all of the native Flash Players and run at the desired FPS. With confidence I can say this example runs on Ruffle better than the native Flash Player. Still not back home yet, merry christmas everyone! Controls:

None

Bugs:

None

EDIT (5:41pm): I think I found a memory leak in Ruffle? After inputting the data for Ruffle (Windows port, Nightly 2023-11-29) the Ram is now 386.8MB and is continuing to rise. Ill leave this running for a while to see what happens to the ram (Please god please let this be an issue with Rust so I can indulge my confirmation biases)

EDIT (6:10pm): 397.1MB Usage, had it minimized and the ram usage never changed, put it to the foreground and it started going back up

EDIT (6:24pm): 401.2 MB, looks like its not moving anymore

EDIT (6:24pm): 417.6 MB, I tried replicating by spam minimizing and reopening the window, the ram immediately spiked to where it is now.

EDIT (6:35pm): 422.5 MB, spam minimized the window a few more times (5 more times). The ram has gone up at a higher rate then the last half in barely a minute.

Spore MOD showcase: Otome Dissection / 乙女解剖 (DECO*27) MMD dance ft. Green Oni

Hi everyone! This time we have another dance: Otome Kaibou by DECO*27, performed by my creation: The Green Oni from project Beyond The Rift! I thought it would be interesting to test this dance with a quadruped creation, especially one with more animated hands! I tried to base a lot of the effects on the original music video. And as usual, this a is all unedited real time gameplay footage in Spore! :3 As for the Green Oni, I tried to play around a lot with the idea of oni cyborgs and decoded to go with the motif of floating heads and arms. This time however, the legs aren't connected to prosthese but the oni sits on a horse/reptile-like mech. The tattoos on his chest spell "sora" and the wings on the halo help to convey a sort of self-imposed divinity. Overall, I had a lot of gun designing the green oni as well as the effects for this dance! As usual, message me on Twitter, or comment on my tweet if you want to be a beta tester of this mod! A short animated film demonstrating how to cheer up a sad friend.

How to Cheer Up A Friend is a short animated film for teens and adults demonstrating a few (terrible) ways to try and cheer up a sad friend. The animated film is contained on a spotty, decaying VHS tape featuring your sad friend (White), the trustworthy narrator, and YOU (Black). Your friend tells you through tears and sobs that their father has died, and has become very sad. With the guidance of the narrator, you spring into action to solve your friend’s sadness by any and all means necessary. (Please do not use this video as advice for your friends in any capacity, or else they likely will not be your friends for much longer.) Finally, after 4 months of work, sweat, tears, many weeks of floundering because of my lazy ass, here it is, my biggest project up to this date:The Strange Dream I learned a lot from Flash tutorials so I could bring you this, my biggest masterpiece, even if still shitty by modern standards, but I try to recreate that 2000s aesthetic of animation, mainly because I'm still a beginner and I like those aesthetics from a period I grew up in, so it's just natural I would do a cartoon based on those Flash animation from the days of yore. Now the beggining you could see I had a rough start with animating, but then I learned the use of symbols and made my animation more fluid with motion tweens and a mix of both Flash and real-life imagery for further comedic value. Then I added sounds from the General Sound Library 6000 and some royalty-free sound effects so I could make it more lively.Overall it turned out great! Atleast, in an amateur level, of course. So I hope you like this nostalgic trip and have fun watching it. :) Songs used in the animation:

Glorious Morning by Waterflame (used in Age of War, recorded in a Youtube gameplay video)

Seinfeld Theme, MIDI Version (Tell me if it needs to be replaced by a non-copyrighted song. I'll change them in a chippy if need be, it was hard to find one without paying a fuckton 'a money ^^;)

Hello everyone, I present a mockup of a game I have in mind. I worked on the illustration of the box and on improving the GUI during the last week. I also felt like trying to produce some music and through a couple of tutorials I built that little piece in LMMS. I hope you like the Mockup. I would love to know what you think in general about the design. Thank you very much!

I finished this some time ago, but decided to share it here now, and start sharing my works here from now on. I've been using Newgrounds for years, but never really posted anything. Anyways, this is my first attempt at Live2D, I'm pretty happy with the result, and yeah, while this is a Vtuber model (most tutorial revolve around that) that's not my main goal for this, I will continue practicing this Live2D stuff to polish my skills a bit more and hopefully be able to use it for animations.

This was a flash animation that was made back in April 13, 2014. I was new to newgrounds and was learning along with Jazza's Flash tutorial. Back then the resources and tutorials was scarce and the Swivel software on Newgrounds was the website that helped me convert swf files into recognizable formats on the internet. I was just practicing and exploring how to use motion tweens and symbols with Macromedia Flash 8 also known as Adobe Flash or Adobe Animate. Time flies fast and these days I often see beautiful masterpieces on the internet. This may not be a masterpiece but I wanted to share it here on Newgrounds since I forgot to share it here when I was struggling to export the flash animation back in 2014. Since then, I learned that most cartoons, like most modern music are, made out of a looped frames. Since then I try to observe every cartoon I watch to see if they use techniques like these when I did see some examples on TV, this later became a passion. This was inspired from playing Need For Speed Most Wanted: Carbon. I got an Orange Lancer Evo.

Whole thing took a few days of binging TB and Blender tutorials, and then about a week to execute.

Glyphid Recruitment

You are relaxing in a nighttime forest the crackle of the fire draws you in.

Welcome to week 6 of learning Blender! This week i spent some time thinking about what i want out of my learning experience and i release that having some better characters than just random anime characters would help im my quest to learn animation. So i spent the majority of the week modeling this knight and his equipment. I think it came out really well and i'm very proud of it. The mesh also works amazing all except the loin cloth but i expected that. But without a lot of time after that i realized i couldn't get out a whole fight scene involving this guy, I also need to model an opponent or two for him. So instead enjoy this wonderfully immersive forest scene. The fire animation followed a tutorial but still learning it will help me with particle and non-organic animation in the future!
