A short AFTER EFFECTS animation assigment

Music: Spiedkiks - The day before This short was made for a college assigment where we had to animate a character in a 3D scenario, all of this done with the After Effects tools. It was amazing to make a 2D rig, I am sharing down some pics of the Behind the scenes for this animation:

Idea + Sketch: for this assigment I used an old design I made in 2022 for a X QUEST thing, it has been forever so I gave a proper redesign that follows my current style and character design ideals, I think he looks amazing now

The RIG: Drawign the model and separating the body part was the fun part, the hard part was putting it all in After Effect in order, properly connected, and masked.

However the addon "Duik Angela" made the whole Rigging process so satisfying to do, I even got the chance to experiment with it a little, now his Bucket Helmet was completely 3DIMENSIONAL, If I had more time I wish I could make this rig even more complex

3D SCENARIO: Working on 3D with AE is PAINFUL, specially with these looping objects and camera that just pans out, but the tower was a even bigger pain in my ass, in fact I had to cheat on the second scene because making a 3D cone that spins around only on AE is basically impossible, so that cone is actually a 3D object

Plus this fuckass scene wouldn't render for some reason and it almost made me late for the assigment deadline

THE SKY-HIGH TOWER

behold. my fuckass animatic for storyboarding class this also gives me the opportunity to start something i'd been thinking of for a while; the ~tidbits collection~ as i work on bird of prey i end up with a ton of blorbos that i LOVE playing dolls with that i just cannot fully explore within the main story. scope too big or something. so, the tidbits collection will be a, well, collection, of side stories; little skits and such. i was debating whether to do it in comic or animated(or in this instance and maybe more, just animatic) form but perhaps i'll just do a bit of whatever, however i feel like it. that's kinda how i do things already i think? i had a limit of 90 seconds, which was a tad stressful because i had to cut a bunch of stuff for time... my poor gagsthere was also a requirement for like at least one colored shot so i tried to do something. lol. if i had more time it definitely would've been... maybe less jarring, but deffo more flashy special thanks to @the-urban-legend and @demonthingy for providing voices, especially on such short notice ;w;i have a version of this that's just me doing the voices because i wasn't sure if i'd get anyone on board in the first place
