Franklin has an idea to get more money in the shop

Well here we are with the third short! This one was a lot of fun to work on this past week. I'll go into more details below as there will be spoilers if you haven't watched it yet. But thank you so much for the support! Newgrounds saw potential in the first episode and gave it a front page position. Truly thankful for that opportunity, and i'm really happy that the short has found some fans. I've been receiving some great messages and really am enjoying meeting others in the indie animation scene. OK, on with the the details. Spoilers from this point on. THE STORYThis third short is based on true events. I was out celebrating a friends birthday and there was an arcade, a claw machine contained these capybara toys, I just really wanted to win one but the machine wouldn't hand it over. My partner decided she would make it her mission to get it for me and i'm happy to say she returned to the arcade the next day and did get it as a surprise, and i'm now a proud owner of a capybara holding a smiling pineapple. FRANKLINWe saw Franklin in the 2nd short briefly. But this time he's made his debut. Franklin is a positive happy guy that just wants to help in anyway he can.. sometimes, he makes mistakes but that's ok. I find BIG characters are a fun contrast to the smallness of Thalia. Having a range of character sizes makes for a more visually dynamic cast and I love how Franklin is essentially Frankenstiens monster wearing bowling shirts and sandals. He's a lovable dude and I can't wait to make more with him. WRITING COMEDYProbably the hardest thing to write because it's just so subjective and i'm not a super confidant writer of anything. The first two shorts required the viewer to have some external knowledge of films like Twilight and Terrifier 3 to really land as intended. So this time I wanted to make the comedy as self contained as it can be. This ones for everyone, or at least I tried my best to write it that way. Some of the greatest comedies ever written stick close to what most people can relate to, Faulty Towers with its husband & wife running a business angle, IT crowd with its office antics... THE OFFICE itself! all of those are relatable character driven sitcoms. As well as referencing popculture from time to time, I need to remember that the writing will land best if it serves what people KNOW. So going forward I hope to lean into that more. and when all else fails? slapstick... Tom the cat getting hit in the face with a frying pan never fails. THE SHOPThe Voodoo Vids building itself is somewhere I want the viewer to desire to go. it's warm, inviting, filled with interesting things. It likely smells of stale coffee and hot CRT's and plastic video cases. I've seen every inch of it because I built everything in it, but the viewers haven't, So I try to get a few establishing shots in there to show the place from different angles. Getting that feeling of "I wish I could go to a place like Voodoo Vids" across more without sapping the pace. I just love strong establishing shots, combined with a nice piece of music, it sets the tone for the rest of it. There is a lot more to see inside, but we'll get to that in a future episode. SILLY VOICESI've done voice work before but for comerical purposes. Yes... I've literally been the guy that says"BUT WAIT! There's more" and I still do that, but I've wanted to get into character work for a while, so I'm using my own project as an excuse to have fun and explore that side of things too.I promise i'll get new voices in for future episodes... i'm no Hank Azaria and i'm looking forward to working with more people. SOME TECHNICAL STUFFThe Capybara world machine was fun to make BUT it was a headache at times. Between the claw rigging, and parenting to the control box, and the fricken CORD on the claw OMG... That was a fiddly thing to get looking right. A lot of trial and error but I settled on a bezier curve and used "hook to" constraints. It does the trick and that's good enough! The Capybara toy itself is a real toy, so I used my own as reference to make the model. I drew the machine artwork in Photoshop and brought it in as an image texture. and to finish off the machines aesthetics I composed its chiptune jingle using a website called "beepbox", if you want to make cool chip tunes and muck about with it, it's a great tool!I was going to model some coins for Victor to use, but I decided it was a detail I could cut to save time, and I don't think it would impact the visual impact by not having that in there. ON great tools a friend told me about WIGGLYPAINT which is the tool I used to draw the squiggly doodles of the characters in the credits. I love how fun they are. FINAL NOTEAside from my partner doing voice work and helping me recording foley sounds I'm working on the animation alone. It's tough but seeing the end result is so satisfying. And if others are enjoying it too then that's even better! Doing this lets me take on all aspects of a production and being indies, we get to just MAKE stuff without having to pass it around a boardroom for sign off on the dirt texture on the glass of the capybara machine. Thanks for the support, thank you for watching, and I look forward to hopefully making you laugh again real soon.

Voodoo Vids - #3 The Claw

Rich from Thing Thing will fight Rich from Madness combat.

Think of this movie as a cuddly version of Madness Duels: RELOADED by @Chabu Collab Organizer, @BotDon Original Creator, @DaKedar Additional Animation, @danou94 Additional Animation,@DeFlame Additional Animation, @FloppyFins Additional Animation, @StalinsFavSkeleton Additional Animation, and @thece Additional Animation… Yeah, It’s a cheap rip-off, and it was only animated by me. The “STORY”: The best part about video game stories is that you can skip them if you don’t give a shit. But this is a movie and I suck at putting the real story into the movie. Well, I do explain it in text, but no one is going to read that, so I’m going to write even MORE TEXT. So here:In this universe, Antarctica is now the new 49th state of the USA, when the Bourgeoisie bombed Alaska. Let me explain this stupid history of “ An Objective and True THING THING timeline”. It all started in Antarctica in 1982, where members of a Norwegian research station find an alien frozen in ice, it is known as “The Thing”, an extremely hostile shape-shifting organism that kills people to survive or whatever. (Also, SPOILER WARNING FOR ALL THE THING MOVIES) all the stuff in The Thing 2012 movie happens and then The Thing goes to the American research station. After the events of The Thing 1982 movie happens and also the game (which is canon), in the 90s, The Thing was still alive and still running a muck in Antarctica. The American government takes notice of this. They get told by the Bourgeoisie that The Thing was going to Alaska, so they nuke the whole state of Alaska, but it didn’t work because The Thing was still in Antarctica. That is why the Bourgeoisie should not be trusted because they also think the Crying Child from FNAF is named Evan. Don’t worry, most of the people from Alaska were refugees to Antarctica before it was bombed, but now they're stuck there with a shape-shifting alien from another world. So Antarctica became the new 49th state of the USA because they were too lazy to change their flag again. The people who now live there are a different type of subhumans called Thing Things. In my stupid head canon, the world of Madness Combat is home to different types of subhumans; like the Madmen/Nevadan/Mad people of Nevada USA, The Klay people of Texas USA, and finally the Thing Things of Antarctica USA. Lastly, there's South Dakota, and I’m guessing all the humans turn into penguins there, or the state was taken over by penguins because they have to move out of Antarctica because the Thing Things moved there and also THE THING. You: “ Wait, did the people in The Thing movies human or Thing Things? And the people in Antarctica were originally from Alaska, so were they always Thing Things or evolve into Thing Things? Or The Thing did something to the humans to make them look like The Thing? And what about the TF2 team from TF2? They were from New Mexico, USA. How did they become Nevadans? “ ANYWAYS! They adapted to their new home, they started building cities and towns there. In 2005, a person called “Project 154” woke up in cell #318 a ta Research Building. Project 154 kills a doctor and takes his gun to escape, which is the starting point of the Thing Thing series. Now in 2022, The Sheriff of Antarctica and his employee of the month, name Rich, both took a vacation together to Nevada, which was a stupid decision, but they really wanted to go to Las Vegas. There he meets the Sheriff of Nevada, and they both had a drink and played a few games together, soon the Sheriff of Nevada bragged that his employee of the month who is also named Rich was a better employee. Being a gambling man, the Sheriff of Antarctica made a bet that set their employees to kill each other for 10 rounds or 11, also using the Improbability Drive the bring them back to life to fight again. The Sheriff of Nevada except. WHO WILL WIN? You: “ So, what ever happen to The Thing? ” …The Thing is still alive. *spooky*Look, I don’t know where the Thing Thing games take place. I ask the people on Newgrounds and Reddit, but they don’t give a shit, except for @DrunkGecko who quotes “in my urethra”. I mean it’s better than nothing.https://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1508250#bbspost27452107_post_textAlso, the creator didn’t get back to me, so I thought it was Antarctica because of The Thing movie. It just makes sense. But if Think Thing dosn’t take place in Antarctica, then this whole story and fake “LORE” was bullshit. I hope this is up to interpretation. I really should have finished all the games first. You: " But about my last Madness day movie? PN2 vs TF2? "NG ending:SAXTON HALE found out that the Sheriff dosn’t own the A.A.H.W, but the Auditor does, also SAXTON HALE quickly found out that the state of Nevada was even more worthless than the badlands of New Mexico. So he left. So yeah, my 5th Madness day. This Madness Day movie was originally going to be “Madness vs Mystery” where the viewer would not know who the Mad people are fighting. And the twist would be Thomas the tank engine. Thomas would crash into the building with the “Thomas smokes weed every day” song playing in the background. MLG! Also, The Sheriff is blowing the Fat Controller because The Sheriff is pathetic or has a humiliation fetish. It would end with Thomes falling to his side and being used as a toilet for the workers, with Thomas begging for death. Or it would end with Tricky helping Thomas kill the Sheriff and the Fat Controller. But this is my 5th Mad Day movie and I’m just going to animate something stupid? I thought about a Madness vs Thing Thing, but it would also going to be very different. The two main characters would be Thing Things and their names would be Thing 1 and Thing 2, from “Cat in the Hat” from the Mike Myers movie, which is the funniest movie of all time. But they would start out looking like Thing Things, they would go fight the Mad people and they would change clothes to look like the Things from the Mike Myer “Cat in the Hat” movie. It would just be like the Sanford and Deimos episodes of Madness combat, and plus they were going to fight them. The idea of Flash animation turn in into Stop Motion animation was from the old Madness vs Thing Thing concept. With the whole animation being made in flash, but at the final fight with Thing 1 & 2 vs Sanford and Deimos. But that would take long to animate, so I just thought about the Thomas idea, but then I remember Madness Dual, and it was really good. But what if I can rip that off with a Mad person and a Thing Thing fight each other? Yes! That will be my Madness day movie. But it will first be animated in Flash and then be animated in Stop Motion. The two fighters were going to be regular grunts fighting, and their sex didn’t matter, but if they were going to have one of their employee's fight, might as well have the employees of the month. And have the Thing Thing also named Rich. So yeah, Rich is the main star of a Madness Day movie. MADNESS VS THING THING: DUEL

As it turned out, the secret to finally finishing an animation like this, was to not plan for it at all

This Town Episode 6: Tip of the Iceberg

This is the 6th episode in our series This Town.

This Town Ep 6

Response 2: I) There are only 2 reasons for me to make this movie. One, to express my feeling to my brother, that I didn't do during his lifetime. Two, I want to thank my good friends (seen in the support team in credit page) who had helped me through many difficulties. In other words, I'm not mourning for my loss, not looking for sympathy. I'm a positive person, who just want to tell others that I saw good side of a life, even though there are also many unpleasant thing happens during our process of life.
2) Part 1 is meant to be an introduction. The parents you've seen in the movie is there as an bridge to bring out Jai. After this part, they will rarely appear in the future episode. I feel bad because I didn't plan my work well enough and gave many people a wrong idea that the movie is going to be one that talks about abusive parents, social problems or so. No, this is not. This is only a story about my brother's life, but it is unavoidable to have these issues attached to the story because those were part of my brother's life (and my life as well). For those who has been very supportive, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Please forgive me if I can't reply your email. Due to limited space here, I have to delete part of the previous comments here. (May 12) Response 1: Thank you for giving me your sincere comments/critiques/sugge
stion (here in newground or in my mailbox). I didn't expect to get this big responses from the viewers, but I do read all of your reviews and emails. I just feel sorry I can't reply to each one individually.
But I guess I didn't express myself very well in the first author's comment or in the story. I just want to tell, the hardest time has passed and I'm in good shape again like I used to be. Thank you all for caring about my situation. To respond to some questions: 1) Jai had an accident when he was 17, but he survived that accident. Sorry the dream seems to confuse some viewers. You will know more when you see the future episodes. 2) Mother is in gray shadow in the scene with me, but in full color with Jai. It is my way to express my relationship with her. Not because I'm lazy to give her color. 3) For those repeated frames, I thank you all for bringing out the points. I didn't notice it would annoy my viewers. I didn't mean to do this, but I guess somehow I'm a slow person and not sensitive enough to feel the annoyance. I have no intention to be lazy and reuse those frames for saving time or work. But this is a good comment that I'll surely pay more attention in doing my future work. 4) As for the subtitles not catching up with the voices, I'll try to fix it though I have no idea how to at this moment. Thank you all!

This movie is dedicated to Jai, my brother who died this Jan, at the age of 27. Jai had a happy childhood until a tragic accident that turned his life up side down when he was 17. This movie is like his biography, about his life before and after the accident... After a 6-week hiatus since Jai's funeral, I finally decided to install the program, started my first chapter in Flash, tried this project that seemed quite impossible at the beginning. Thank you all who have been giving me all kinds of supports, ... cheers, food, money, jokes .... and a special thank to those who encouraged me to do this project, taught me Flash, and introduced Newgrounds to me! thanks! ... xiaosha
