Description

Aphrodite is the Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty.
Legend goes that when the world was young Cronus, youngest of the Titans conspired to usurp his father Ouranos as ruler the heavens. He went to his 5 older brothers and persuaded them to assist him. Of them, Iapetus, Hyperion, Crius, and Coeus agreed to help Cronus, while Oceanus the eldest refused. When Ouranos came to lay with his wife Gaia, the brother ambushed him Iapetus, Hyperion, Crius and Coeus grabbed each of Ouranos' limbs and then Cronus castrated him. After which to spite Oceanus for not helping, he threw his father's genitals into Oceanus' domain of the ocean. Over time, Ouranos' divine essence began to dissolve and foam from his decaying junk and from this foam, Aphrodite was born fully grown as an adult.
As the goddess of love, Aphrodite was one of the most popular gods in the Olympian Pantheon and was believed to have power over all mortals and gods with the exception of Athena, Artemis, and Hestia. She was however forced to marry the incredibly unattractive Hephaestus. This however did not stop her from cheating on her husband with many of the other male gods and several mortals, notably Ares the God of War and Adonis. Her son is Eros, the God of Carnality and Lust. Aphrodite is known to also be incredibly petty and flighty, punishing the princess Psyche for being more beautiful for her, getting the hunter Hippolytus killed for choosing to become a celibate hunter of Artemis, turning Atalanta and Hippomenes into lions for forgetting to thank her for setting them up together, and causing the Trojan War.
Her Roman equivalent is Venus.
