Description
A race of human & dragon hybrids designed by artist Driz (Drizzziit)
Abelians are a hybrid people of human and draconic-monster origin, created through alchemy for warmongering purposes. They have a black leathery skin, two pairs of horns, prehensile tails tipped with fur plumes, and a blend of human and bestial features. Most males are lean and enduring, of a relatively short size for most of their long lives as they grow to become true warriors, while females are larger, stronger, and virtually immortal, forming the natural matriarchs of their clans.
Culturally, Abelians have long laid down the path of the relentless warrior. They are a clan-based, caste-structured society that values martial discipline, self-mastery, and community above all. Combat has shifted from a desire of conquest towards a form of expression and growth over the ages. Their families are fluid, names evolve as a person matures, and rituals bind them to tradition and ancestry. Abelians are as much philosophers and ritualists as they are warriors.
They live in tight-knit clans with fluid, extended families centered on powerful matriarchs who are revered as leaders, mentors, and protectors. Children are raised collectively by these elder women, without family names. Community, shared resources, and collective teaching form the norm of Abelian society.
Spiritually, they venerate four ancestral demigods which forms their distinct social castes but live under the shadow of a forbidden fifth who represents their suppressed & lost corruption and ambition.
