The Acme Corporation (also known simply as Acme, and stylized as ACME) is a fictional company that is prominently featured in Looney Tunes cartoons, namely the ones starring Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. They are known for selling outlandish products that fail to work or backfire at the worst possible timing. In real life, the name originates from the Greek word ἀκμή (akmē) meaning 'summit', 'highest point', 'extremity' or 'peak'. It was commonly used in the 1920s by many buisnesses to be listed toward the beginning of alphabetized telephone directories like the yellow pages. Acme's name in the Looney Tunes shorts is an ironic creative choice, due to their products being poorly-made or explosive in these cartoons.
Acme also appears in various media, usually as a stand-in for a generic brand company, including other cartoons (especially those by Warner Bros. and Disney), films, television series, comics and commercials. A notable example of its media appearances is the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which promenently featured the company as part of its murder mystery plot. See also
