Description

Battletech is a long-running tabletop wargame centered around "battlemechs", the game's in-universe term for mecha.

Gameplay

The game, as with all tabletop games, is primarily played via miniature models, dice, data sheets, and a hex-grid map terrain. You don't just field mechs but also a whole combined arms full of other units such as tanks, aircraft, and even infantry.

Lore

The lore centers around space conflicts between several factions spanning hundreds of years and multiple eras. Most, if not all, major wars taking place within the Inner Sphere, a vast territory centered around Terra, the universe's term for Earth. Most of the major factions involved are, in one way or another, connected to the now defunct Star League; A vast interstellar government.

Real Life History

In earlier days the game was called "Battledroids" and most of the battlemech designs are taken directly from various Anime shows of the time (the 1980s). A series of lawsuits throughout the years have forced FASA to change their game's name to "Battletech" as well as redesign the mechs to make them more of their own design.
