Description
Butch is a recurring human character who appears in the Pokémon anime. He has green hair and brown eyes, and speaks with a gravelly voice.
Butch is a member of Team Rocket. His partner is Cassidy, and Butch has somewhat of a hot temper which contrasts with Cassidy's calmer disposition. Her Raticate is often seen tagging along in missions, although Butch has his own Pokémon team.
One of the anime's most famous running gags centers around Butch, in which much to his frustration, nearly everyone he interacts with repeatedly gets his name wrong. Cassidy is one of the few to usually get his name right, and even then, she still sometimes calls him the wrong name. He has been called "Biff," "Bilge," "Buzz," "Bill," "Bob," "Botch," "Buffy," "Butcher," "Chuck," "Clutch," "Footch," "Hooch," "Hutch," "Mitch," and "Patch" by various characters. Sometimes when Cassidy gets it right, he, out of habit, tries to correct her and ends up calling himself the incorrect name. This, of course, annoys him to no end, so much so that in the Pokémon Chronicles episode Training Daze he said in frustration, "That does it, I am changing my name."
Their rivals are Jessie and James, although the rivalry between James and Butch is milder than that between Jessie and Cassidy. Much like the aforementioned duo, Butch and Cassidy's names come from that of an American outlaw, specifically Butch Cassidy.
