Description
A fixed raised horizontal surface used for serving or preparing food, doing check-outs at stores, etc. The word is often used interchanged with desk, where the main distinction for taggin is that a counter is a fixture and a desk is furniture. Hence, for example, in a bar there is a bar counter, no bar desk.
