Description

A dragon rider is a fictional cavalry unit who rides dragons into battle instead of conventional mounts such as horses. Dragons are notoriously dangerous to tame or befriend so seeing one being ridden in battle like a mount reflects on the rider's tremendous skill in creature handling and also their bond with said dragon.

In most works of fiction dragon riders are treated as the fantasy equivalent to real life air forces' Close Air Support (CAS) and air superiority fighter aircrafts. Unlike aircraft most dragons are VTOL capable and can engage targets in both melee (teeth, claws, etc.) and range (breathe attacks).
