Description

Drowning is the act of dying of suffocation in water (underwater) or other liquid. This can occur if the character drowning does not have gills or diving equipment like a scuba or snorkel. It can also occur if a character does have gills, yet is lacking lungs to breathe air with.

Note that this tag applies both to characters who have already died from drowning and to characters who are still in the process of drowning (as in the example above).

If the character shows no signs of asphyxiation or immediate danger, holding breath is probably more appropriate.
