A duck is an anatid waterbird with a broad blunt bill, short legs, webbed feet, feathers and a waddling gait. A form taxon, ducks are a grouping together of all members of the family Anatidae that aren't geese or swans — as such, there is no common "duck" ancestor that excludes Anserinae, some clades being more related to said subfamily than others. Ducks consist mostly of the subfamily Anatinae and its tribes, but also includes the monophyletic subfamilies of Dendrocygninae and Stictonettinae.
