Description
Jocks are a stereotypical social clique/character archetype who are considered popular in school or in fictional media depicting school life.
Common characteristics typically associated with Jocks include:
- Muscular, tall, or otherwise naturally physically gifted.
- Conventionally attractive or handsome.
- Highly aggressive, egotistical, or arrogant.
- Frequently engages in bullying, partying, drinking, and sexual exploits when not participating in sports or sports training.
- Forming groups or cliques with other Jocks.
- Frequently depicted wearing or using sports equipment or sportswear, even if not playing the sport and wearing letterman jackets.
Additionally, Jocks often overlap with Fraternities, since many Fraternities will bully Fraternity Pledges, use sports as a form of recreational or bonding activities, which in turn makes necessitates them to often be physically talented, and can potentially make them popular if they can win college sporting events. Which in turn can make them very attractive to others for various reasons.
The term "Jock" is derived from the jockstrap, a type of men's athletic wear frequently worn by such Athletes.
