Description

A pear-shaped figure describes a character with wide hips paired with a narrower upper body and shoulders. They will have comparatively lower fat-mass around their torso/waist and commonly have thicker thighs and/or a larger butt. If the character has breasts, they will usually have small to medium-sized breasts, or, more loosely, breasts that are noticeably smaller in comparison to the size of the characters lower body and hips. This figure resembles a pear, and is a commonly used term in fashion and beauty circles.
This tag can be applied to a range of similarly pear-shaped bodies (see examples above). A character doesn't need to be chubby or overweight to be pear-shaped, but this figure is more common with chubby/overweight characters.

Pear Shaped Vs. Bottom Heavy:
Both tags describe characters with lower bodies that are wider than their upper bodies, however...
  • pear-shaped is intended to be subtler, more realistic or natural
    • a pear shaped figure should always have a "flow" of curving out from a narrower upper body, to wider midsection/waist, to wide hips and thick thighs
  • bottom heavy is broader, and often applies to exaggerated figures, sometimes with disproportionately wide lower bodies and very small upper bodies
    • bottom heavy figures usually have huge or hyper hips, thighs, and butt
    • bottom heavy can apply to semi-anthro characters, pear-shaped should not be used for semi-anthro or feral characters
For characters with toony proportions, and nearly spherical exaggerated lower bodies that resemble pears, see hyper pear.
