Primagens are an open species created by CoolKoinu, who also created the open Protogen species. They were originally created as a closed species, with their first designs being uploaded to FurAffinity on February 21, 2015, and a design guide being uploaded on March 29. On September 26, 2026, CoolKoinu announced that the species would now be an open species, following the successful Backerkit campaign for the Zenith's Outer Reach tabletop roleplaying game.

Primagen Vs. Protogen
Primagen are broadly similar to Protogen, as they share similar lore, and are also a race of mammalian cyborg aliens with a screen for a face. However there are several differences
- longer, boxier faces
- anatomy more similar to that of a dromaeosaurid or dinosaurs in general
- mechanical fin protrusions in place of ears
