Description

Also known as a sukumizu, abbreviation of school mizugi. A universally blue swimsuit (though may be depicted in different colors in artwork) that's mass-produced for use in Japanese schools. The term refers specifically to the version worn by girls (The version worn by boys is in the shape of trunks instead.), which is frequently fetishized by otaku. It is usually used as a form of fanservice in anime and manga. Other notable use of the school swimsuit is telling that the character wearing it is modest, or immature compared to other characters in beach episodes.
Common depictions of it have the wearer's name on a white rectangle on the front face of the suit (usually written in hiragana ). Depictions may also have the wearer's grade year and class above their name, or the wearer's name on a small rectangle on the side of the swimsuit's front face. Newer variants tend to be more akin to a sport swimsuit.
