Description

General term for marine algae often found on seabeds or washed up on beaches. Seaweed comes in red, brown, and green varieties, and certain species are used in food. Seaweed generally has a wispy, wavy shape and a somewhat gelatinous texture.

Though seaweed is often thought to be a plant, only green seaweed is actually considered part of Kingdom Plantae, with the other varieties being classified as protists.
