Description

Shaved ice is just that; ice scraped off of a big brick of the stuff with a knife, producing snow. It can be then flavored with syrup and served as a snow cone, or thrown at someone not expecting a snowball in the middle of summer. It has a much finer grain than crushed ice, which generally stays in chunks about the same size as ice cubes.
In Hawaii, where it is a popular dessert, it is called "shave ice":[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaiian_shave_ice] (no d).
