Lepisma saccharinum, the silverfish, is a primitive and wingless insect. Silverfish are small and grey, having a rough teardrop shape, long antennae relative to body length, and three filaments (two of which are cerci) coming out of their hind end.
Its main diet of starches makes it a household pest, as it will eat not only foodstuffs (pastas, coffee, and flour especially) but also more durable goods such as books (binding and paper), clothes, and paint. Despite this, they are not known to transmit any sort of disease. They can be repelled/killed with cedar essential oil.
