Description
Sonic the Hedgehog is a video game character created by Naoto Ohshima. He is the mascot of the video game company Sega and the eponymous main character of most of the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
Sonic is a male, anthropomorphic, hedgehog with blue fur who has the ability to run at supersonic speeds and the power to curl into a ball, primarily to attack enemies. He frequently goes on adventures to stop the selfish industrialist slaver Dr. Eggman. His best friend, Miles "Tails" Prower, introduced in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, frequently accompanies him on these adventures. His damsel-in-distress-turned-heroine, Amy Rose, was introduced in Sonic CD for the Sega CD alongside reoccurring mechanical doppelganger Metal Sonic. His "fighting buddy", Knuckles the Echidna was introduced in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as an on-again-off-again antagonist and occasional ally. His dark reflection, Shadow the Hedgehog was introduced in Sonic Adventure 2 as an antagonist-turned-protagonist.
Besides appearing as the main, playable character, in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic also appears as the main character in numerous spinoff comics, cartoons, and films.
