Description

Spider-Man is superhero character who appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics, and various related media. He was co-created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, and made his first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15 (dated August 1962).
He has powers identical to those of a spider, including super strength and the ability to climb on any surface, in addition to having a "spider-sense" that triggers his mind in moments of potential danger. He also posseses mechanical web shooters that use an artificial web fluid, though in the case of some versions, he shoots webs organically from his wrists.
Spider-Man is the secret identity of Peter Parker, who was raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben. After getting his abilities from the bite of an irradiated spider, Peter created his superhero mantle to initially build his career as a celebrity, but the tragic death of Uncle Ben led Peter to use his identity to save people above himself, inspired by the mantra "with great power comes great responsibility."
While Peter has largely been identified as Spider-Man, there have been other characters that go by the mantle or a similar alter-ego, including Miles Morales, and the clone Ben Reilly as the Scarlet Spider. Alternate universe examples of Spider-Man include Gwen Stacy as Spider-Gwen, Peter Porker as [[Spider-Ham (character)
|Spider-Ham]], and Miguel O'Hara as Spider-Man 2099.
