Spine (also known as the spinal column or back bone) is a series of bones that supports the skeletal structure and the body. Each individual bone in the spine is called a vertebra (plural: vertebrae), which are separated by cushioning intervertebral disc.

Not to be confused with spines, which are the sharp, pointy structures found on certain animals and plants.
