Description

A race of humanoid beings whose ancestry can be traced back to a specific demonic lineage. Tieflings originated in the Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting and should not be confused with a half-fiend, which is the result of a direct liason between a fiend/demon and a human resulting in a hybrid. A tiefling's demonic ancestry is much further back in their heritage.
The origin of the species traces to the Empire of Bael Turath, one of the greatest human civilizations. The nobility of the Empire became obsessed with preserving and extending their power for all eternity and their schemes were eventually uncovered by denizens of the Nine Hells, specifically beings from an area known as the Astral Sea. The devils guided the nobles through visions on how to perform a ritual that would give them what they desired. The ritual itself is lost in history but has always been accounted as being horrific and inhuman in its machinations. Since the ritual had to be completed by all noble houses any house that did not wish to perform was summarily slaughtered. When the ritual was completed the nobles that remained were able to bring devils from the Astral Sea into this world and began making contracts and pacts with them, the resulting unification always resulted in the noble acquiring the devil's physical traits such as demonic horns, a demonic tail, and dark or reddish tinted skin. These traits were then passed through all subsequent bloodlines of the family, regardless of racial affinity.
