Trivia

  • In context of the Internet, specifically the furry subculture, Tony is the subject of sexual attraction. Thirst comments of him began as an injoke by an indivdual in 2015, who jokingly commented on sending nudes to a post on the brand's official Twitter account. It reached a point where the comments gained mainstream attention by news outlets, and in 2016, the brand account began blocking a number of accounts thought to be furries, though the lack of distinction between those who simply belong in subculture or actually tweeted out lewd comments led to the hashtag #TonyTigerGate.
  • In August 2022, Tony the Tiger made his debut as a Vtuber streamer on Twitch. Similar to the mid-2010s comments on the Twitter account, the chat for the brand channel's streams were littered with thirst comments, and the channel itself was eventually deleted after a short period.
