I worked on this for a couple days. I really wanted to play with spring bones and this was a cool way to do that. I used iphone face mocap for the aliens. I have used mocap where I precisely linked up the face but I really wanted only vaguely lip syncing action. I almost considered just having them just jiggle to talk. This also gave me a chance to push eevee a little bit in blender. I was under the impression that eevee couldn't do subsurface stuff but it totally can. You can see subsurface work in the glow from lights inside the aliens.

I modeled everything except the notebook and pens (Those objects and the textures for the whole world come from my Poliigon license). I really wanted the boring notebook so there was some realism. I actually spent some time dreaming up alien pens but it didn't ground the piece.

The music and background noise are from storyblocks and licensed through there.

I also was amazed at how well camera settings still worked in eevee. Because of the lack of certain light stuff I didn't think I could use rack focusing on light sources as affectively as I did.

From a writing stand point: fuck sonic, am i right?

I also actively had to restrain from drawing more bad sonic. It's sooo fun to draw sonic badly. I basically would look at a real official sonic art and then make every mistake I normally make my head do when drawing. So if I saw a hand I would normally figure out the orientation of the thumbs and fingers but I just wouldn't and so on. It was really great. I may make more bad sonic art.

I am exclusively putting this animation on Newgrounds. I really wanted to make something like Egoraptor had done on here but updated and worthy of this site and I hope everyone likes it.
