A short film about a captain who underestimates a monster. An animation exercise

Few parts of the animation were surprisingly challenging. The ocean movement and waves were fun to animate, but the boat shots required a bit more thought. Since the boat is drawn in 2D and not a real 3D object, rotating and changing angles had to be done manually to keep the illusion working. For example, when the boat tilts and the camera angle changes, I had to adjust the drawing so it feels like the boat is turning in space, even though it's really just a flat drawing. The top-down shot of the boat was also tricky. As the camera pulls away, the captain had to look upward toward the viewer, and the cabin needed a slight backward tilt. In the real world you would naturally see a bit more of the top surfaces when the camera moves farther away, so I had to fake that perspective shift in 2D. Interestingly, the sea monster itself wasn't the hardest part. The most challenging bit was actually the water splash when the monster emerges from the ocean. Getting the motion of the water to feel energetic and believable took a lot more tweaking than I expected.Everything in this animation was created using Arttista, a 2D illustration and animation tool that I built myself. I've been using projects like this to experiment with different animation workflows and features while developing it. [MISSING FILE]: by faxeman Music composed in FL Studio Animation made in Krita A short animation made entirely by me. For this animation, I didn't use Flipaclip like the others; I used Krita. For the character design, I had to do many complicated things: for the white character (Whisper), in addition to sketching her poses and expressions on paper, I had to download paper textures to better adapt them to the digital format. For the black character (Nyra), it was easier: I divided the night sky texture and the line art into different layers, and her expressions were more distinct from Whisper's.

Made in 2 days using blender! Song is "Nigthmare Teller" from Melty Blood: Actress Again

The Neco Arc model i've made here was originally made for another animation but i've wanted to test it and this test has streched into this funny short animation! :3 The song playing in the background of this audio is "Nigthmare Teller" from Melty Blood: Actress Again OST. The model of the guitar is not mine, i don't know who made it but i took it from sketchfab here.I've also painted the guitar to make it more appealing and cute (by adding white hearts and paw marks). I also had troubles rendering it because the guitar breaking simulation was throttling the render alot and i had to divide the render into 2 seperate videos and then connect them together into one. The animation was originally made in 50 fps but newgrounds have converted it to either 30 or 60 fps idk why but it could look better.

A short excerpt from our audio drama in animation form.

Mongrel World- the poker swcene.I wrote the script and edited the sound at the time, and Fanni did the animation alone. We were just curious to see what our old listeners would say about it if we animated a scene and whether new people would be open to it? And here is the result. Series PlotKorcsvilág (Mongrel World) was born after an event known as The Oblivion, which destroyed the Multiverse while simultaneously merging the remaining fragments of various alternative realities. The survivors divided this new Earth into successor states, each representing a different alternate universe. This is "Mongrel World," and its order is guarded by the mysterious Big Girl and her organization, The Sanctuary. While dinosaurs roam one country, another utilizes futuristic medical technology, and in a third, cowboys face off in gunfights and we could continue the list all day long. To prevent total chaos, The Sanctuary strictly enforces the First Code, a set of laws that applies to every successor state without exception. The most vital law of this book is: each country may only possess lifeforms, technology, goods, and magic that were already present in its original world before The Oblivion.Milo Waukegan is thrust into this strange new world, soon becoming an agent of The Sanctuary alongside Pamacs(Fluffy), a talking Puli dog, and the other members of Tango Squad. Scene PlotIn this scene, Tango Squad meets Milo for the first time, giving us a brief glimpse into how they spend their time when they aren't out on a mission. This scene in particular is the better one out of the 3 ones I made for the project, in my opinion. It was the first animation of mine that used a drawing tablet, which was midway on the scene when I've been using it (on the head spin movement). A bit proud of it and my animation skills have been improving since I had my tablet. It was an honor to be part of this and thanks to Maximized Animation and Teddy for hosting this cool collab.

Environmental Concept Art presenting My Game's atmosphere and exploration.

This is one of many concept art posts for a “spooky” supernatural-themed NSFW Visual Novel Game that I’m planning on doing! The game’s current working title is ESTATE OF THE LATEFor the INTERACTIVE VERSION you must visit the version I posted on MY SITE………………………………………………………………………………………………………… This is just an environmental concept art that is made as two interactive 360 panoramas, so the only way I can post them here is via video. For the interactive version please check out the linked post on my site. Originally the environment was made for the "Game night" concept scene comic, because at this point I want to be a lot more concrete with environments and backgrounds in my concept scene sketches. Then naturally the environment art became an exercise in displaying the personalities of it's inhabitants. Both these Panoramas cover one big room that belongs to Angelica and Dorothy that is divided into 3 parts. Angelica’s side of the RoomI consciously made her side of the room more packed with stuff – she’s definitely is a material girl and a general theme of hers is her values toward “external” stuff that can give her power. Therefore, while she is into magic, I am also trying to illustrate how the quickly growing technology of the 90's was starting to seem like it’s own type of “magic”. Especially if you are rich and can afford the latest and greatest hardware and software at the time. She is also a dork. The whole shelf right of her PC is filled with media – 90’s Strategy games and Point-and-clickers. I hope to maybe have a scene where if you prompt her about her collection of media, you can get her to start gushing about the games that she likes and that are coming up. Dorothy’s side of the Room. She is the more humble one. She is a lot more inwardly focused. So most of the stuff she has is about self-development and not instant gratification. Her interests mainly reside in 2 directions – Art and Fitness (to a point where it seems as if she made up of 2 different people). When it comes to fitness, she is heavily into calisthenics, because she loves maximizing the freedom that her body can do, which is why she has that pullup rack and rope outside her window (that I’ve featured two times in concept drawings) which allows her to B-line straight outside to the river with the alligators. When it comes to art she likes her 90's nu-metal (this universe’s analog for bands like Tool and NIN). Her Room is filled with posters, but I’ll fill them out later. I hope to get some help in making parody versions of IRL nu-metal bands. She does also try to create in the realm of Music, which is why she has a whole guitar set. However, a big theme about her artistic pursuits is that she is not good at them. I would like the estate’s environment to have a lot of signs of her older artistic pursuits like paintings and sculptures that she herself cringes to look at.Middle part of the room...is where they do stuff together, like watch TV play video games have had sex at least ones.I gave them a console that would be older even for 1999 (an equivalent to SNES). My reasoning is that Angelica would have embraced being part of the PC master race, while for Dorothy that would have made it seem like video games have gotten too sophisticated for her to enjoyment.

Fixed minor color mistakes for SWF version only. COMMENTARYI started this project thinking, “Oh, yeah, I know exactly how to draw AoStH Robotnik; I don’t need to use reference!” And then every frame looked like shit. So, I went online and referred to the show itself and these two pieces of concept art by character designer Milton Knight. A good lesson in humility. I accomplished a good chunk of animation on a livestream, but the stream was struck down because I played episodes of Adventures of Sonic for my friends to watch thinking nothing would come of it. Maybe I should stream on Twitch or Picarto, accounts where I don’t really care whether they live or die. It’s a darn shame because that stream was a lot of fun! DoodleDemon and I started calling each other “blithering buckets of bolts” and watched Robotnik do a Nazi salute and that was absolutely hilarious. The show itself is a lot of fun. It’s stupid fun. Every moment Robotnik is on screen is a good time. Scratch and Grounder are great, as well. The team that worked on it—including Milton Knight, the voice actor Long John Baldry (1940–2005 R.I.P.), and the storyboard artists (including Scott Shaw! From the early Archie Sonic comics)—did a fantastic job given the limitations they worked with. Overall, I definitely prefer SatAM over AoStH, but they are both very different genres of animation. While I was working on this project, Milton Knight leaked on Facebook that Diskotech would be doing an Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog complete series release on Blu-ray and that it would contain new interviews with him. I had hoped that the release would be in HD given that it is Blu-ray and not DVD, but it was very unlikely whoever owned the rights to the show kept the film masters and only kept the master tapes, which inherently have a lower resolution. Later that year, Diskotech officially announced the complete series on Twitter. I am absolutely going to pre-order it. It comes out February 2022. If they ever release the SatAM complete series on Blu-ray (in full HD, knock on wood), I will die a happy man. Now that I think about it, I’m known by all my friends for being a huge Sonic fan, so it’s weird that it took until now for me to make a proper Sonic cartoon. This project started as a gift for MatterBoar. I felt bad that the previous animation I made for him was released in November 2020, 13 months ago, and I hadn’t made any new ones in that time. So I secretly started this one and originally intended to give it to him for free. He asked me if I was available for new animation work and I told him about this side project and he said he’d buy it! The deadline was Christmas Day. The night before, I promised myself I would work on this cartoon until it is 100% ready to release. I thought it would take maybe three hours. It ended up taking 22 hours straight. I only took three hour-long breaks to rest my hands and get a half-hour of sleep. A single cup of hot chocolate coffee got me through it! The thing that took the longest in this particular long stretch was the shot of Robotnik running in place. That took forever! I probably could have done this quicker, but I wanted to make sure each and every frame was cleaned up. I do not envy the animators of the original show. Despite how simple Robotnik’s character design looks, animating him takes a long time, especially compared to Sonic. Robotnik’s mustache and yellow jumpsuit straps in particular were very troublesome, as well as layering the different body parts. The most frustrating thing with Sonic was doing his baby blue highlights. Thankfully, Sonic hardly moves in this cartoon. (That’s kinda uncharacteristic of Sonic, but hey I’m not complaining!) I wanted to add some traditional paint-like motion blur to some of the snappier movements, but due to the deadline—and me just wanting to move on to something new—I could not do it in time. The tight shot of Robotnik’s face at the end was also supposed to be painterly, similar to the gross-out shots in SpongeBob and Ren and Stimpy, but after I took a crack at it in Clip Studio Paint, I couldn’t do it. Also, I felt that a rendered painting of a character wouldn’t fit a parody that tried to match the art style of the original show. Pre-production began in August 2021 and post-production ended on Saturday, December 25th. Normally, a 26-second-long cartoon wouldn’t take that long, but due to a myriad of continuous financial problems and setbacks, it took four months to complete. It probably would have had a better start if I had started by making storyboards. I run-and-gunned this whole cartoon and I definitely regret it. I ended up making last-minute changes to the character poses, facial expressions, etc., which isn’t something you really want to be doing a lot with deadlines involved. You want to make confident decisions in the beginning so that the changes later on will hopefully be few in number. Ordinarily, I would not do this slapdash approach with a commission. But this started out as a gift and turned into a commission later. Regardless, even quick, shoddy storyboards would have gone a long way! Lesson learned. Originally, I was going to commission my friend Dyoudi Mitimasa (@epicfunnyhahajokelol) do the background art. He is a natural at this kind of sharp, abstract art style. However, I did not have the money to commission an artist, especially at the time. So instead, I leave you with a huge recommendation to go check out Dyoudi’s art! He’s a wonderful artist and a wonderful person! Additionally, Milton Knight is still an active artist and has a Patreon! Go support him, too! I made this background art by referencing two screenshots from the show, shown in the timelapse video. At first, I was very happy with this art, especially since it was my first real attempt at abstract art. The reference really helped! But once I put it in the cartoon, something was wrong. Robotnik’s design is mostly warm colors. The background is mostly warm colors. I feel this leads to a lot of Robotnik’s movements being less readable than they should. Sonic is fine since he’s blue, orange’s complement. If I had to do the background art again, I would divide the composition into two sections: a cool section for Robotnik and a warm section for Sonic. CLIENTMatterBoar ANIMATION / BACKGROUND ART / EDITINGAlexander Emenheiser @ade-syndicate BACKGROUND MUSICDr. Robotnik's ThemeComposed by Reed Robbins and Mark SimonCover by Turret 3471 Main Title ThemeComposed by Clark GassmanIncludes motifs fromSonic 2 Title Theme and Emerald Hill Zone composed by Masato Nakamura,In the Hall of the Mountain King composed by Edvard Grieg, and Flight of the Bumblebee composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov AUDIO TAKEN FROMOneyPlays Sonic Robo Blast 2 - FINALEwith @Oney, Ding Dong, and JulianEdited by Dex the Swede FONTSPedro SPECIAL THANKS AND PATREON SUPPORTERSAnimation stream viewers, including DoodleDemon, for keeping me companyMilton Knight for being nice when I talked to him :)@SuprDee2 for being supportiveand giving me a new version of Toon BoomDyoudi Mitimasa @epicfunnyhahajokelol PATREON & KO-FI SUPPORTERSAleahAshleyFroggyDuwudeViktor Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog © SEGA, DIC Entertainment 1993 P.S. — I’m working on a new project right now!
