"Too late..."

The 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. animated!

This animation is a sequel to my very first hand-drawn animation. This time around, I used a Huion drawing tablet instead of drawing with purely a mouse. The quality is quite a bit different . . . maybe I'll need to remake the first at some point . . . Check out the original animation here, if you haven't seen it yet: Super Mario Over the Years! 1 - Unfortunately, you'll have to watch it on YT because I didn't have a NG account back then :( Isn't it technically the 41st now of Super Mario Bros?: Lol, yes - this project is a culmination of short vids I've been putting out during the 40th anniversary across my socials, plus a bunch more! I still wanted to call this an animation for the 40th, as it's the bigger milestone year than the 41st. I also just work slowly, and had a bunch of ideas, causing the release time to continuously get pushed back. Art Direction I've had the thought for quite some time to make a more faithful animation to the Mario series to emulate and honor the stylistic choices of Yōichi Kotabe and Shigehisa Nakaue. My decision on the art direction also came down to me wanting to "understand the generations of Mario” from its official art standpoint. Furthermore, I wanted to embellish some of Mario's movements, not limited to the games, to give a greater sense of action and adventure! I referenced all types of official cover art, licensed activity books, instruction manuals, classic 80s/90s commercials and other promotional material for the games and time periods. It took way more effort than my past simpler, often rough character animations - but it was totally worth it! For later games in the franchise, including games like Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Odyssey Characters, I choose to fuse the official render designs with the linework used in the manual art in the earlier games. I wanted the animation to have the hand drawn feel, but still have the evolution of Mario's design aimed to hit several of the "key poses" from the Super Mario Bros official art, and “bring them to life” in the animation. In order to execute this idea, I started with several of the key frames as these key poses, with some adjustments (like eye movements, hand placements, or perspective tweaks) to flow with the animation. As far as the backgrounds go, they involve a stylistic approach to Shigehisa Nakaue's work on the fairly consistent Nintendo summer artwork. I tried to simulate this by blending some watercolor texture scans I painted with digital watercolor brushes created in Photoshop to create laying and show a brush stroke on a more rough, coarse paper. The color usage references the internal colors displayed when playing the games on their respective consoles. This challenged me when it came to using a very monochromatic color scheme in Super Mario Land's Birabuto dungeon to quite the opposite of using a wide array of color in Mario's character animation in the Super Mario Odyssey segment. Easter Eggs Woah, you actually read up to this point? Okay, well, I'll let you in on a little secret: this animation is jam packed with a ton of hidden secrets/collectables. Try to spot the following:

Bosses and/or friendly side characters from each game

References to different Nintendo game console generations

5 cherries to give you "invincibility"

2 wonder seeds for a "sense of curiosity"

Franchise game/console codenames

A bunch of coins. Count all of them if you dare and they may reveal some meaningful Mario number lol . . . The following are variations of coins and values associated with them (does their final value mean anything?):

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀◦ Regular/Gold Coin - Simply 1 Coin⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀◦ Red Coin (SM64) - 1 Red Coin = 2 Coins⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀◦ Blue Coin (SM64) - 1 Blue Coin = 5 Coins⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀◦ Purple Regional Coin (SMO) - 1 Regional Coin = 2 Coins Credits Music in chronological order:0:00 ~ Super Mario Bros 2. - Ground Theme ~ Super Smash Bros. Werewolves, robots, shapeshifters, all fighting in TCOBO Smash! It's an all out battle, who will win? Who will lose? What mysteries might be waiting inside this game? I'm so excited to finally finish this, even if it didn't end up EXACTLY how I wanted. There's probably some mistakes in there somewhere, missing sound effects or off colors, but I hope you guys like it anyway! There Can Only Be One _____! Is an annual animated battle among several competing characters with similar traits. The base character is always one of my own, from which I select a trait, and search for other characters with that trait and make the compete! Papyrus tries to tell a joke...it does not go well

I, um...I am not sure what to say here, actually X'D Like, I am drowning in work - this includes having to do a literary course, which has turned my brain into mash potatoes by the end of the day. Got a few commissions I need to work on. Working on a massive project for Madness Day and some arties for Robot Day. Dealing with health being super inconvenient at the moment. And I decide...let's make a random animation, because I happened upon a video where the comments were FILLED with people saying how perfect it would be for Sans and Papyrus...and they were right XD I know there isn't much (any) Undertale fan art really on my page, but I am a huge fan of the series. I even drew a comic for it years ago (but it is really badly drawn and I dunno if it'll ever see the light of day). The skelly-bros were always my favorite because I love to draw skeletons. So this was fun XD I have to say, it has been a LONG while since I last animated something even remotely like this, and I have really been working harder to add more actual...animation to it XD You have to understand...I use freakin' WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER to make my animations because I am dumb. So this process is 100% more complicated than it needs to be. So I am grateful actual limbs are moving in this one. Took two days to make. Hope you guys enjoy! Really #BADASS winscreen that isn't actually for a game

I am very much not good at animating, sorry if this sucks! I personally find the process of animating extremely annoying, so I end up not actually putting in the effort to get better at it.I don't know what genre to put this in, by the way. Tell me if I should move it to something else! Like how 1x1x1x1 was my first Returns model, this was my first winscreen. This is supposed to have music, but I don't want to get smited off the face of Newgrounds on my first day so it has been excluded. The music used was an abridged excerpt of Darkness Falls by zero-project; the same person who composed Gothic, a track that was very popular and commonly used in the early days of Roblox. (Both of these are insanely good btw, please listen to them I beg of you)More specifically, the parts of Darkness Falls used were 3:48-3:56, which then faded into 4:37. The ambient audio used at the end is the classic Roblox horror ambient. The UI elements are very obviously taken right from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with some very slight tweaks, with the transition animation being ripped straight from it. The loading wheel in the corner is also a recreation of the SSBU loading wheel without the Smash logo, and the text "THE WINNER IS..." directly quotes the announcer's words on winscreens from the pre-Ultimate era. The general vibe of the animation was inspired by Sephiroth's winscreens in SSBU, and 1x1x1x1 even does the same look back that Sephiroth does.(I tried to embed gifs here but they just didn't work so uhhh go look it up) The music chosen, Darkness Falls, was specifically chosen due to it being structured in a way I find similar to One-Winged Angel.Additionally, Darkness Falls is part of the same album that Gothic is, with Gothic having been associated with both horror and action games. Some people (including myself) even associate it directly with 1x1x1x1. The horror ambient playing at the end was also added as an homage to Sephiroth, with his winscreens in SSBU ending with a much more sinister droning note after his victory theme finishes, rather than the typical music that nearly every other character uses. That ambient was specifically chosen due to it also originating from horror games of old, which I found fit well with the character.
