Description
The canine teeth, also sometimes known as the fang teeth, are long, sharp teeth located at the front of the jaw on the outer sides of the incisors. These teeth often come in pairs, where there are 2 canine teeth in the upper jaw and 2 in the lower jaw. These teeth are commonly recognized in carnivorous mammals, but can also be found in omnivores and, rarely, herbivores. They help with tearing apart food and for self defense. Notable species who have canine teeth are canids, felids, and humans, but in more unique cases some herbivorous species may also have them. This can be seen primarily in specific deer species, such as the musk deer and water deer, who have canine teeth for fighting and self defensive purposes.
