Description
Emoji are text characters used much like emoticons and various varieties exist including faces, hand gestures, common objects such as food, places and types of weather, and animals.
The word emoji comes from Japanese 絵文字 emoji, which literally means "picture character". Strictly speaking the plural of emoji is "emoji", though "emojis" is common in English.
The resemblance to English words like emotion or emoticon is purely coincidental.
