Garchomp (Japanese: ガブリアス Gaburias) is a dual-type Dragon/Ground pokémon introduced in Generation IV.
It evolves from Gabite starting at level 48. It is the final form of Gible.
Garchomp can Mega Evolve into two forms:
Mega Garchomp using the Garchompite. Mega Garchomp was introduced in Generation VI.
Mega Garchomp Z using the Garchompite Z. Mega Garchomp Z was introduced during Generation IX, in the Mega Dimension DLC for pokémon Legends: Z-A.
Garchomp is referred to as a pseudo-legendary Pokémon by fans.
Garchomp is a bipedal, draconian pokémon that is primarily dark blue in color. It has red on its underbelly from the lower jaw to the middle of the abdomen, including the undersides of its arms. A patch of gold comes to a point below the red on its belly, and a golden star shape adorns the tip of its snout. Garchomp has horn-like appendages that resemble a jet or plane's engines, giving it an appearance similar to that of a hammerhead shark. Its large mouth features razor-sharp teeth. Its feet have three white talons, and both of its arms have a large, white claw for a hand, as well as curved fins for flight. Garchomp also has a large dorsal fin and another on its tail that resembles a shark tailfin. The male's dorsal fin has a notch on it. Pairs of small, white spikes protrude from its upper arms and legs, and there are gill-like slits on the sides of the neck. Its eyes are intense, with black sclerae and gold-colored irises.
When Garchomp folds up its body and extends its wings, it resembles a jet plane. It can fly as fast as a jet fighter and is capable of reaching sonic speeds to catch its prey, which it will never allow to escape. It is also fast underground, and it is said that when it runs, its wings generate wind blades that cut down nearby trees. The fine scales on Garchomp's body reduce wind resistance for easier flight, and their sharp edges also serve to injure opponents who attack it directly. It hunts down as much prey as it can, and is known to eat entire flocks of bird pokémon. Garchomp sometimes battles Salamence in the air as they compete for food. The protuberances on its head act as sensors, allowing it to detect prey from afar. Garchomp lives in volcanic mountain ranges, and after finding its meal, it returns to its den before its body cools down from being outside. It is described as having a feral nature, requiring extreme caution if encountered in the wild.
In Generation IX, Garchomp and its pre-evolved forms are the only known pokémon that can have Rough Skin as an Ability.
