Description

A suborder of bats (scientific name Microchiroptera) that consists of small bat species (in contrast to megabats), thus the name. Most microbats are cave-dwelling, and all use echolocation to navigate. As a result, they possess the iconic leaf nose associated with bats. Additionally, they lack tails.

Most microbats eat fruit and insects, but some hunt larger animals such as birds and fish. This order also includes vampire bats, who feed on blood.
