Description

A mime or mime artist is a person who acts out a story on stage, without the use of speech. In earlier times, in English, such a performer would typically be referred to as a "mummer".

Mimes are often characterised by wearing tight black and white clothing with white facial makeup. Miming is also a popular act of buskers or street theatres.

Contemporary mimes don't wear the whiteface makeup of traditional mimes, and, while they don't speak, they may employ vocal effects in their performances. Traditional mimes, however, were completely silent.

Mimes can either be comical or tragic. Comical mimes are similar to clowns in their goals.
