Ōkami is a 2006 action-adventure game developed by Clover Studio and published by Capcom for the PlayStation 2. It tells a story based in Japanese mythology, following the Shinto goddess Amaterasu (who takes on the form of a white wolf) as she fights to cleanse Japan from darkness and corruption after being asleep for a hundred years. While not financially successful upon its original release, the game was highly praised by critics and players, leading to it being ported to other consoles and receiving an HD remaster. The game received a sequel in 2010 for the Nintendo DS called Ōkamiden, which follows Amaterasu's son Chibiterasu as he battles the forces of darkness once again. This game was developed by Capcom with no involvement from Clover Studio, which had closed after the release of Ōkami. At the 2024 Game Awards, an untitled sequel was announced to be in development by Capcom in partnership with Clovers, a new studio with Hideki Kamiya returning to direct the game.
The title is a pun on the Japanese words for "wolf" and "great god", which are both pronounced "Ōkami".
