The 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. animated!

This animation is a sequel to my very first hand-drawn animation. This time around, I used a Huion drawing tablet instead of drawing with purely a mouse. The quality is quite a bit different . . . maybe I'll need to remake the first at some point . . . Check out the original animation here, if you haven't seen it yet: <a href="https://youtu.be/2xDUeHmDdMI" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Super Mario Over the Years! 1</a> - Unfortunately, you'll have to watch it on YT because I didn't have a NG account back then :( Isn't it technically the 41st now of Super Mario Bros?: Lol, yes - this project is a culmination of short vids I've been putting out during the 40th anniversary across my socials, plus a bunch more! I still wanted to call this an animation for the 40th, as it's the bigger milestone year than the 41st. I also just work slowly, and had a bunch of ideas, causing the release time to continuously get pushed back. Art Direction I've had the thought for quite some time to make a more faithful animation to the Mario series to emulate and honor the stylistic choices of Yōichi Kotabe and Shigehisa Nakaue. My decision on the art direction also came down to me wanting to "understand the generations of Mario” from its official art standpoint. Furthermore, I wanted to embellish some of Mario's movements, not limited to the games, to give a greater sense of action and adventure! I referenced all types of official cover art, licensed activity books, instruction manuals, classic 80s/90s commercials and other promotional material for the games and time periods. It took way more effort than my past simpler, often rough character animations - but it was totally worth it! For later games in the franchise, including games like Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Odyssey Characters, I choose to fuse the official render designs with the linework used in the manual art in the earlier games. I wanted the animation to have the hand drawn feel, but still have the evolution of Mario's design aimed to hit several of the "key poses" from the Super Mario Bros official art, and “bring them to life” in the animation. In order to execute this idea, I started with several of the key frames as these key poses, with some adjustments (like eye movements, hand placements, or perspective tweaks) to flow with the animation. As far as the backgrounds go, they involve a stylistic approach to Shigehisa Nakaue's work on the fairly consistent Nintendo summer artwork. I tried to simulate this by blending some watercolor texture scans I painted with digital watercolor brushes created in Photoshop to create laying and show a brush stroke on a more rough, coarse paper. The color usage references the internal colors displayed when playing the games on their respective consoles. This challenged me when it came to using a very monochromatic color scheme in Super Mario Land's Birabuto dungeon to quite the opposite of using a wide array of color in Mario's character animation in the Super Mario Odyssey segment. Easter Eggs Woah, you actually read up to this point? Okay, well, I'll let you in on a little secret: this animation is jam packed with a ton of hidden secrets/collectables. Try to spot the following: <ul><li>Bosses and/or friendly side characters from each game</li><li>References to different Nintendo game console generations</li><li>5 cherries to give you "invincibility"</li><li>2 wonder seeds for a "sense of curiosity"</li><li>Franchise game/console codenames</li><li>A bunch of coins. Count all of them if you dare and they may reveal some meaningful Mario number lol . . . The following are variations of coins and values associated with them (does their final value mean anything?):</li></ul>⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀◦ Regular/Gold Coin - Simply 1 Coin⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀◦ Red Coin (SM64) - 1 Red Coin = 2 Coins⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀◦ Blue Coin (SM64) - 1 Blue Coin = 5 Coins⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀◦ Purple Regional Coin (SMO) - 1 Regional Coin = 2 Coins Credits Music in chronological order:0:00 ~ Super Mario Bros 2. - Ground Theme ~ Super Smash Bros. This is how music looks to me completely sober. Don't watch if you have epilepsy!

Don't watch this if you have epilepsy. This looks significantly better in VR. Still trying to solve a color space issue after getting the desktop viewer to show more than just the left eye. Tendril is our upcoming VR rhythm game. Originally designed simulate synesthesia in real-time, it'll come with exciting rhythm and choreography challenges that'll keep you on your toes while teaching you how audiovisual synesthesia works. This video shows how my song Riverwolf looks to me. Tendril comes with a robust editor that will let you paint music with a diverse collection of preset brushes, add symmetry and all kinds of effects, and import your own 3D models &amp; textures for full control. Upload stems, separate them by layer, add audiomorphic processing to almost every parameter, and add environments so you're not just in a black space. Then share your creations with your friends or export video for your own live performances. You can upload any audio file. It doesn't even have to be music. We're hoping to ship the base game with 20-50 tracks and a story/tutorial campaign. How many we're able to include will depend entirely on how much funding we can acquire for licensing. Additional tracks may be added later as DLC. We may run a campaign for this at some point, so stay tuned! The sooner we can garner sufficient interest in this project, the sooner we'll be able to launch the campaign and the game. In the meantime, please join our Discord: <a href="https://discord.gg/gY4avv5UVV" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">https://discord.gg/gY4avv5UVV</a> I will be creating more songs in this simulator over the coming weeks. This was my first. This is an evolving art form and the way visuals are structured will change depending on the song. It will look significantly better once we have brush stabilization. How the rhythm gameplay will be structured will cause the visuals to evolve as well. If you have requests for songs you would like to see, leave them in the Tendrilab Discord server in #track-requests!

Bask in the beauty of such a wonderful day

Made this in a few hours on May 9th. This animation was me experimenting with flash pencil as I wanted to use it more, so why not use a joke I came with in a short amount of time as an excuse to experiment with something other than brush. Enjoy!

A Glorious Day

The hot babe on the left is meant to have different colored lips than that, but the chalk brush I was using for that is kinda translucent so it made them appear lighter and maybe possibly stereotype esque idk. I know I’m being a huge hypochondriac here, but just know that’s not supposed to be evil hatred if you also thought it looked weird

Pillowcase Bears 10: Brush your teeth

Elise Morgenstern was just another overworked art student… until she died. Her savior? Valtheris, a bitter, immortal necromancer who resurrected her not out of mercy—but because he needs an apprentice to help hunt the monsters surging through mysterious portals across their world. Now, Elise is trapped in an undead limbo: her body unchanged but her soul fused with necromantic shadows. Armed with powers she never asked for (and Val’s relentless criticism), Elise must learn to: Extract fallen monsters’ essence to summon soldiers made of paint from her paint brush. Curtain Whisper💦👁🔥🍑

mantis has a romantic night with iron fist

Mantis feels his weight settle against her, a familiar warmth blooming in her chest as her legs lock around his hips, drawing him impossibly closer. His fingertips brush over the curve of her waist, then trail up to cup her face, thumb grazing her jawline in a touch that is as commanding as it is tender, grounding her in every gasp and quiver. She meets his gaze through half-lidded eyes, heart fluttering at the heat of his focus. When he leans down to kiss her, it’s slow and almost reverent, a promise of what’s to come. Each gentle press of his lips melts away her defenses, leaving her skin hypersensitive to the slightest graze of his fingers in her hair, the firm guidance of his hand on her cheek. As he shifts, each deliberate thrust teaches her the delicious power of surrender, building from a soft, teasing rhythm into a harder, more insistent pace. Mantis presses her palm harder to his face, memorizing every nuance, the pull of his jaw, the steady beat of his breath, pressing herself into him until her own breath comes in ragged moans and her body trembles with need. The world narrows to the slick slide of skin on skin, the electric charge of his hands on her curves, and an exquisite ache blooming deep within her. In every moment she is both witness and surrender, her usual strength melting into the sweet thrill of being held, guided, and wholly claimed by him. And maybe, just maybe, something she'd quietly longed for is finally being answered in his touch.

THE MP4 HAS MORE FIXES TO MISSING FEATURES <a href="https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/976936/format/video">WATCH THE MP4</a> THANKS FOR Daily 2nd Place!!!!! EPILEPSY WARNING Original Title: Pico Day 2025, Sonic Vs Goku, then changed to Sonic Vs Goku Vs Pico Vs Tom Fulp, then changed to Pico Vs Newgrounds Finished on 4/18/2025, I am just going to post it today because I want this to be an early birthday present The original was boring but check it out: <a href="https://www.newgrounds.com/projects/movies/6610015/preview/filetype/0">click here</a> Don't worry it won't be like the <a href="https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/126072">2003 one</a>... Happy Birthday TOM! this is for your birthday also if I don't finish the other Pico Day one, I don't really like that one so I wanted to make this for you :) Happy 47th birthday Mr. Tom! BEFORE READING Keep in mind that I could not see the early 2000s, so I am trying my best to convey the 2000s! Dear Tom, I may not know you, but your site is awesome, anyway I want to share some information, I decided to get some audios from 2003 - 2005 to capture the feel of the old newgrounds you created, like <a href="https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/32370">Doomsday!</a>, <a href="https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/38932">C&amp;C Red Alert - Hellmarch</a>, and <a href="https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/25026">Bond, James Bond... Metal</a>. I wanted to animation to feel old so I used the pencil tool to give the feel of the old newgrounds animations when they didn't use the brush and used the pencil for some odd reason, like <a href="https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/253824">Decline of Video Gaming 3</a> and <a href="https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/227334">Halo: Funny Situations</a>. (Yes I know they also used handdrawn but they used very thin lines and I ain't doing allat.) I hope you enjoy this animation Fulp. Yours awesomely, Cheppekka Tom's shirt texture: <a href="https://www.newgrounds.com/art/view/rocky-ds/thank-you-for-frontpaging-my-art-tom-fulp">click here</a> Fun facts: A lot of old flash animations used mk1 sound effects, which means a lot of people had mk1 back then I used <a href="https://www.newgrounds.com/movies/popular?sort=views&amp;genre=0&amp;after=2005-01-01&amp;before=2005-12-31">this cool setting</a> to find all these old fragments Did you know you could type ?emulate=flash to older animations that use the newgrounds launcher Tom Fulp was 12 YEARS OLD making up a concept for newgrounds The creator of the Ultimate Showdown was 14 when making his animation It takes the average self animator about 9-11 months, this took me from march 8th to april 18th There are a lot of deleted and lost media animations from newgrounds because of the rating system back then, but lets not be too sad, it's because they weren't good. newgrounds has been on national NEWS yes NEWS for the kindergarden killer game tom is a kind guy, ik shocker right?!

I originally planned on something a lot smaller but the thumbnails I drew up were too hot and I needed to animate all of them XD I decided to challenge myself to get all the animation done within September and I actually managed to land that crazy schedule. I learned a lot about how best to schedule and manage my time during this project. The hardest part for me is often starting breaking up the project into small chunks with hard deadlines helped by continuing to push me forward and stick to the schedule. It's been a while since I've done my own VA work so hopefully its not terrible XD Nyx seemed to like it so I'm sure its at least half decent. I hadn't really planned on having a Male VA from the start but it felt like something was missing when I was putting together the edit and I didn't have time to do casting for it. The good news is we ended up with some additional dialogue between the two that I think helps tie the scenes together and keep the pacing moving. I also realized a bit too late that I happened to use the same music track that I did in Sinner and a Show XD oh well! Its a nice track, I like it, but I'll try to be more mindful of it or coordinate some custom music for larger projects in the future. There are a few things I'd probably go back and do differently now but overall I'm really happy with how the project turned out. I particularly love bounce in the side view shot and shot choice for the climax shots. One thing I want to play around with in the future is post processing. I'm currently I'm doing pretty much everything in CSP and it became very apparent that I need to figure out a better solution for future projects XD It was weirdly difficult to keep lighting consistent throughout this one and even now there's still some shots that might be a little off. There are so many things I want to study up on now like lighting, color, rendering, and I've certainly noticed some weak spots in my anatomy knowledge too that I need to brush up on. I'll save all that for the future though, until then enjoy the Saki seggs!
