Golden Queen Marika

An animatic/storyboard based on the Wrath of the Sun OCT

Please read the Audition and the first Round here for further context:https://wotsmyaugur.thecomicseries.com/ Round 2 Program used is Clip Studio Paint EX (v1.13) Author's notes: This took a bit longer; roughly seven and a half weeks (pushing the envelope on the round time for the tourney). However, I was able to have fun with a lot more ideas and shots. The plot also took a turning point, as I was originally planning for My'augur's story to begin turning more towards ultimately a bittersweet ending. My opponent's character just had to be so unbelievably good that it might lead more to a "golden ending" (not bad, but I personally have trouble writing purely good endings). Another fun tidbit was the deflating cultist was originally going to be a plot-point for the enemy-of-the-round like how the Mad Archer was for Round 2; a superpowered mimic. However, with the focus more on a cultist group in the setting and the overall pacing of the story, I couldn't feasibly fit it properly with my pace. So, the cultist is just structurally challenged. He's still cool though.

The 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. animated!

This animation is a sequel to my very first hand-drawn animation. This time around, I used a Huion drawing tablet instead of drawing with purely a mouse. The quality is quite a bit different . . . maybe I'll need to remake the first at some point . . . Check out the original animation here, if you haven't seen it yet: Super Mario Over the Years! 1 - Unfortunately, you'll have to watch it on YT because I didn't have a NG account back then :( Isn't it technically the 41st now of Super Mario Bros?: Lol, yes - this project is a culmination of short vids I've been putting out during the 40th anniversary across my socials, plus a bunch more! I still wanted to call this an animation for the 40th, as it's the bigger milestone year than the 41st. I also just work slowly, and had a bunch of ideas, causing the release time to continuously get pushed back. Art Direction I've had the thought for quite some time to make a more faithful animation to the Mario series to emulate and honor the stylistic choices of Yōichi Kotabe and Shigehisa Nakaue. My decision on the art direction also came down to me wanting to "understand the generations of Mario” from its official art standpoint. Furthermore, I wanted to embellish some of Mario's movements, not limited to the games, to give a greater sense of action and adventure! I referenced all types of official cover art, licensed activity books, instruction manuals, classic 80s/90s commercials and other promotional material for the games and time periods. It took way more effort than my past simpler, often rough character animations - but it was totally worth it! For later games in the franchise, including games like Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Odyssey Characters, I choose to fuse the official render designs with the linework used in the manual art in the earlier games. I wanted the animation to have the hand drawn feel, but still have the evolution of Mario's design aimed to hit several of the "key poses" from the Super Mario Bros official art, and “bring them to life” in the animation. In order to execute this idea, I started with several of the key frames as these key poses, with some adjustments (like eye movements, hand placements, or perspective tweaks) to flow with the animation. As far as the backgrounds go, they involve a stylistic approach to Shigehisa Nakaue's work on the fairly consistent Nintendo summer artwork. I tried to simulate this by blending some watercolor texture scans I painted with digital watercolor brushes created in Photoshop to create laying and show a brush stroke on a more rough, coarse paper. The color usage references the internal colors displayed when playing the games on their respective consoles. This challenged me when it came to using a very monochromatic color scheme in Super Mario Land's Birabuto dungeon to quite the opposite of using a wide array of color in Mario's character animation in the Super Mario Odyssey segment. Easter Eggs Woah, you actually read up to this point? Okay, well, I'll let you in on a little secret: this animation is jam packed with a ton of hidden secrets/collectables. Try to spot the following:

Bosses and/or friendly side characters from each game

References to different Nintendo game console generations

5 cherries to give you "invincibility"

2 wonder seeds for a "sense of curiosity"

Franchise game/console codenames

A bunch of coins. Count all of them if you dare and they may reveal some meaningful Mario number lol . . . The following are variations of coins and values associated with them (does their final value mean anything?):

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀◦ Regular/Gold Coin - Simply 1 Coin⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀◦ Red Coin (SM64) - 1 Red Coin = 2 Coins⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀◦ Blue Coin (SM64) - 1 Blue Coin = 5 Coins⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀◦ Purple Regional Coin (SMO) - 1 Regional Coin = 2 Coins Credits Music in chronological order:0:00 ~ Super Mario Bros 2. - Ground Theme ~ Super Smash Bros. Nothing prompted me to make this but pure will-power & my love for animation, & I gained inspiration from works like Cuphead, 1951's Alice in Wonderland & Land of the Lustrous! I had many times where I thought I wasn't going to make it, but I did it, and I'm beyond proud of myself.♥ ♥ I just want to take this moment to say THANK YOU to my AMAZING Voice Actors & The Amazing Support I've gotten from My Fiancé, Family, Friends & YOU, My Community, in Support of my First-Ever Independent FILM!! 💚 I seriously would not have been able to complete this film had I not had the support from ALL OF YOU!! 🟢 "Animation." The early morning sun glistened over the ruined coastline, casting golden light across the broken remnants of a once-thriving boardwalk. Now, it was a peaceful training ground. Sawsan Vix, a sleek, mute mutant fox girl, stretched on the sand with perfect precision. Her sporty, skin-tight workout gear clung to her fur, designed for flexibility and speed. Each movement was fluid—controlled kicks, deep lunges, and sharp flips that kicked up clouds of sand. Strapped to her waist was a patched-up cassette player, humming with life. “Take on meee… take me onnn…” The warm fuzz of 80s synth filled her ears through oversized headphones—one of the few gifts she ever received, and from someone who somehow always made her tail flick: Baskal, the gruff, scarred human bounty hunter. He found the tape in a forgotten music store buried beneath rubble and dust, wrapped it with some wire, and gave it to her without much ceremony. She'd smiled—not that he saw. Now, every beat made her bounce a little more as she jogged along the shore. She stopped, posed like she was in a cheesy dance workout video, and struck a thumbs-up toward the ruins behind her, just in case Baskal was watching from the cliffs. Her sharp eyes sparkled with a hint of mischief. No words. Just music, motion, and the sound of waves. In the silence of a broken world, Sawsan Vix made her own rhythm. 🌟 Check out my active sites: https://beacons.ai/nafyo

Mina's Golden Opportunity

The clock counts down your freedom... Listen to 'Timber Heart Silence' & step

"They existed before humans learned to name the darkness. And they waited—patient, silent, immortal—until you stepped through the door." 🕯️
You arrived in Mina drömmars stad, the City of Dreams, with nothing but a single, battered bag carrying eighteen years of loneliness from one orphanage to another. You walked past the frozen cobblestone streets, beneath the fading orange-tiled roofs weathered by sea salt and heavy moss, looking for a place to disappear. And then, Mrs. Ann found you. She brought you here, into this hallway of muted emerald walls and the faint, deceptive comfort of dried chamomile and simmering tea. Under the warm, golden glow of the chandelier, the madness of the world outside seems to fade away. Here, you allow yourself to believe you are safe. You allow yourself to warm your bleeding fingers by the hearth and pretend that you are not running from a fate too monstrous to comprehend. But do not let the quiet fool you. Listen closely to 'Timber Heart Silence'. Beneath the comforting melody lies a suffocating stillness. The grandfather clock in the corner doesn't just count the hours—it counts the remaining heartbeats of your freedom. Every heavy tick is a warning. Every shadow stretching along the staircase is a reminder that the safety of this house is nothing but borrowed time. Outside, the chilling fog is creeping under the floorboards, and the velvet snare of the Matchmaker's shop is already tightening around your soul. You were not chosen because you are strong. Golden Bikini

A street performer wanting to become a royal jester.

This is an animated short film i spent months working on as part of a College final major project. Plot:A long time ago, in the kingdom of WorkinDale, a young street performer named "Tanoshi" hears word of an open try out audition set up by the ruler of WorkinDale "King Hartforaleg" as a way for him to find a new royal jester in his castle. Throughout Tanoshi's try out trial, he falls in love with the king's daughter "Princess MuffyButtons" and gets nearly kicked out of the kingdom after shattering the king's golden plates. Will Tanoshi fulfil his dreams of becoming WorkinDale's royal jester? In the first episode, Paul was a background reaction character for a single appearance... but I like how he looked so much that I decided maybe he is another regular. Of course, he is now a regular. Expect to see him haunting the shop more often. Some behind the scenes.I use blender for all the animation. I designed and made all the characters, painted their textures, rigged them... that has taken the longest to do. But now that I have them, essentially it's all about writing, animating and editing the final episode in premiere pro.You have to wear many hats with indie animation, often you do a bit of everything in the production pipeline. And to every animator that has had sleepless nights doing "one more shot" or "one more frame" to make their production happen. Well done. This stuff is HARD. AudioA lot of audio I gather from freesound.org Or i'll record some bits of foley myself. In this episode I sat in front of a microphone shaking a real VHS tape around to get the sound of it in the characters hands. The sound is something I try to spend a lot of time on. Panning the voices through different shots to make the characters feel like they are in the world, adding a subtle room ambient reverb, panning the voice audio when the character turns their head... Such a small thing, but it's the difference between audio that feels "in world" and audio that feels "stuck on top" Time ScalesEpisode 1 took around 2 weeks to do (not including building all the props and the sets etc) , but Episode 2 I managed in 4 days. The context of the episode matters too, If i need to make a bunch of unique props for the story that can take more time. but I could factor in an extra day to just model all the scene specific props. The exterior of Paul's house in this episode for example was a last minute addition. I had time to quickly model it. and light it. so was happy to get it in. Cinematographygetting those nice cinematic shots is important to me, so I spent a lot of time studying the rule of thirds, and other techniques like the golden ratio. If you want to up your game on camera shots. look into this stuff, it'll take you from a bad framing loser to a Hollywood champ in no time! Simple rules to follow and they yield good results. (knowing when to break them is important too) I'm enjoying discovering what kind of show this is turning out to be, I don't have a plan or massive future goal, I just want to explore, introduce new ideas, experiment with different skill sets and channel them all into this video shop.I've got a lot of ideas about more scenarios and characters to make. I'm always open to ideas too so if you want to add something to Voodoo Vids in some way get in touch, let's talk. If you've read this far then thank you, Some people aren't interested in this stuff, but I'd like to include it for those that do enjoy some more content to read after they (hopefully) enjoyed the short. Love to hear your feedback, thoughts in general. drop a comment even if its just to say Hi :) Bren.
